The Galvanode VP embedded galvanic anode is used to mitigate ring anode corrosion or the halo effect when repairing reinforced concrete. The halide-activated (Type 1H) anode is comprised of high-purity zinc cast around two steel tie wires with a cement-based mortar that keeps the zinc active over the life of the anode. Once installed, the zinc anode corrodes preferentially to protect the adjacent reinforcing steel.
Galvanode VP anodes are halide activated and contain substances that are corrosive to both the high-purity zinc core and reinforcing steel, and these substances will remain in the structure over time. The anode units should be installed a sufficient distance away from reinforcing steel using the anode stand-offs to minimize corrosion risk after the anodes are consumed or if the anodes become electrically disconnected from the reinforcing steel.
