Vectrode® iBalance™
Vectrode® iBalance™
iBalance™ is a passive current-regulating technology integrated into Vectrode® ICCP anodes. It controls the amount of current each anode can deliver, preventing localized over-delivery ("current dumping") and promoting more uniform current distribution across the structure.
Designed to address variability in concrete conditions such as moisture, chloride content, and temperature. iBalance™ improves the reliability, predictability, and longevity of the ICCP system. By regulating current at the anode level, it significantly reduces the risk of current dumping, anode shorting, premature anode consumption, and localized over-polarization.

The Challenge: Uneven Current Distribution in ICCP Systems
Concrete Is Not Uniform
Variations in moisture, chloride concentration, temperature, and reinforcement geometry result in differences in resistivity that influence current distribution during cathodic protection.

Current Imbalance in Unregulated ICCP Systems
In conventional ICCP systems, current follows the path of least resistance. This can lead to uneven current distribution within a single protection zone:
- Low-resistivity areas receive disproportionately high current
- Higher-resistivity areas receive insufficient current
- Total system current may meet design criteria while protection remains non-uniform
This imbalance can result in localized over-polarization, faster anode consumption, and continued corrosion risk in under-protected areas.
The Solution: iBalance™ Current Regulation
Current Control at the Point of Delivery
iBalance™ regulates current at each anode connection, limiting peak current delivery and preventing any single anode from drawing a disproportionate share of system current.
By controlling current at the source, iBalance™ ensures more uniform current distribution across reinforcing steel, even under variable field conditions.
iBalance™ does not reduce protection — it stops uncontrolled over-delivery of current.

Features & Benefits
Passive Regulation: Operates without software, calibration, or external control systems.
Controlled Current Delivery: Limits peak current at each anode connection, preventing current dumping while maintaining effective protection.
Balanced Protection: Promotes more uniform current distribution across ICCP zones, even in concrete with variable resistivity.
Predictable Performance: Helps align field performance with design intent under changing environmental and exposure conditions.
Short Mitigation: Limits the impact of low-resistance conditions, including inadvertent anode-to-steel contact, reducing risk of system imbalance.
System Resilience: Prevents individual anodes from drawing a disproportionate share of current, improving overall system reliability.
Integrated Solution: Incorporated into all Vectrode® ICCP anode systems, with the option to specify anodes without iBalance™ based on project requirements.
