GalvaMesh™ Zinc Anode System for Concrete Corrosion Protection

The GalvaMesh™ Anode System is a high-performance corrosion mitigation solution designed for reinforced concrete structures exposed to harsh environments. This innovative system features a shrinkage-controlled Tecto-Alumo-Silicate-Cement (TASC) binder, specifically engineered to activate and embed a zinc mesh anode on-site.

Unlike conventional cement-based mortars, the TASC binder is a three-component, non-cementitious, glass-fibre-reinforced matrix, offering superior performance in both durability and conductivity. It meets the standards of ASTM C1666 and EN 15422, ensuring quality and compliance for critical infrastructure applications throughout Canada and the U.S.

GalvaMesh™ installation is straightforward and effective:

  • A fine putty-like layer of TASC binder is applied to bare concrete surfaces
  • The zinc mesh is embedded directly into the matrix
  • A final finishing layer fully encapsulates the anode

The result is a long-lasting, bonded system with:

  • Volumetric porosity >35% for enhanced ionic movement
  • Excellent adhesion to uncoated concrete
  • High ionic conductivity to sustain effective cathodic protection
  • Exceptional durability for bridges, parking structures, marine assets, and more

Whether you're protecting critical infrastructure in London, Toronto, New York, Sydney, Dubai, or Tokyo, GalvaMesh™ provides a proven solution to extend service life and prevent corrosion-related failures.

Key Features & Benefits

The GalvaMesh™ Zinc Anode System delivers effective, long-term corrosion protection for reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Designed for durability and ease of use, this system offers the following features and advantages:

  • Simple On-Site Application: Applied quickly and efficiently in the field with minimal specialized equipment or training required.
  • Maintenance-Free Operation: Provides continuous corrosion protection without the need for routine maintenance.
  • Compatible with All Concrete Repair Materials - Functions effectively with any standard concrete repair system—no bridging mortar or low-resistance mortars required.
  • High Electrolytic Conductivity - Features a specific resistance of less than 90 ohms·cm at 75% relative humidity for optimal current distribution.
  • Ideal for Prestressed and Post-Tensioned Concrete - Offers reliable galvanic protection while helping to prevent hydrogen embrittlement in high-tension applications.
  • Flexible and Configurable Design - Can be assembled on-site and adapted to structures of any shape, size, or form.
  • Extended Anode Service Life - Engineered to prevent zinc passivation and auto-corrosion, extending anode longevity and system effectiveness.
  • Strong Adhesion and Low Modulus - Achieves adhesion to concrete surfaces greater than 200 psi and a low elastic modulus of less than 7 GPa, supporting long-term stability.
  • Broad Coating Compatibility - Compatible with acrylic, epoxy, and polyurethane-based sealers and surface coatings.
  • Custom Zinc Mesh Options - Available in multiple zinc mesh thicknesses and weights (0.2 to 1.6 lbs/ft²) to suit different environmental and structural conditions.
  • Service Life Up to 20 Years - Designed for long-term protection; actual lifespan may vary based on factors such as reinforcing steel density, concrete conductivity, chloride ion concentration, temperature, humidity, and anode spacing.

Applications

The GalvaMesh™ Zinc Anode System is ideally suited for corrosion protection in a wide range of concrete structures exposed to aggressive environmental conditions. Its flexibility, ease of installation, and compatibility with various substrates make it a trusted choice for engineers, contractors, and asset owners.

Recommended Applications:

  • Bridge Decks and Substructures: Ideal for protecting soffits, abutments, columns, beams, and pier caps from chloride-induced corrosion.
  • Parking Garages: Mitigates corrosion in elevated slabs, ramps, and columns frequently exposed to deicing salts and moisture.
  • Marine and Coastal Infrastructure: Provides reliable galvanic protection in environments with constant exposure to saltwater, including wharves, docks, seawalls, and pilings.
  • Tunnels and Underground Structures: Effective in mitigating corrosion in high-humidity, low-ventilation environments such as subway tunnels and utility corridors.
  • Stadiums, Arenas, and Public Facilities: Protects exposed or difficult-to-access reinforced concrete elements subject to weathering and chloride ingress.
  • Industrial and Water Treatment Facilities: Maintains long-term durability of reinforced concrete in areas with chemical exposure, moisture, and thermal cycling.
  • Prestressed and Post-Tensioned Concrete: Especially effective in preventing corrosion without the risk of hydrogen embrittlement in high-tension structural members.
