Galvashield® CC
Galvanic Systems
Embedded galvanic anode that proactively prevents corrosion in sound reinforced concrete.

Completed in 2000, Harbor Steps is an 18-story residential building in downtown Seattle.
The salt-laden air from nearby Puget Sound created an environment around the building where the steel in the post-tensioned anchorages and some unprotected ends of the post-tensioned cable began to corrode. If this corrosion was not addressed the cables would deteriorate leading to a shorting of the structures service life.

The use of Galvashield® CC135 Type 2 anodes was selected as the best corrosion protection method for this project as they provided a flexible and localized method to provide galvanic protection. The Glavashield CC135 anodes were drilled in exposed floor areas around the perimeter and attached to the post-tensioning anchorages.

The small diameter of the CC135 allowed for installation in the tight spacing between the anchorages. These anodes will provide long-term corrosion mitigation for the anchorages and the sections of exposed cable immediately behind each anchorage.

These innovative products and technologies were used on this project.
