W Manslick Road Bridge

W Manslick Road Bridge

Louisville, Kentucky, United States
The 67N is a two-lane bridge that carries W Manslick Road over Pond Creek in the south of Louisville, Kentucky.
Owner: Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

The Problem

Vector completed a corrosion potential survey and found the majority of the substructure had readings higher than 350mV, which would indicate a 90% probability of active corrosion of the embedded steel. All concrete dust samples taken on the substructure also contained chloride levels above the accepted threshold for chloride-induced corrosion.

Our Solution

Vector installed Galvashield® SM-DAS anodes which were distributed across the surface of the reinforced concrete beam to provide targeted corrosion protection. This product utilizes the long-lasting technology of our Galvashield® DAS anodes but allows for a faster installation as no concrete removal is needed.

The surface mounted system was installed with a reference cell and remote monitoring system to measure its performance. This data ensures Vector and the client that the system is working as intended and will protect the structure from future corrosion damage.

The Result

Galvashield SM-DAS anodes provided sufficient current to the reinforcing steel to adequately protect the actively corroding structure, and the system continues to be monitored over time.
