X-Mesh® Gold

X-Mesh Gold is a ground breaking structural reinforcement system which offers improved performance compared with conventional fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) systems. The fibers, which are made from polyparaphenelyne benzobisoxazole (PBO), are attached to the structure with a cementitous mortar, rather than epoxy. The benefit to this method of attachment lies in the inherent thermal resistance of the embedding mortar. Epoxy loses its stiffness near its glass transition temperature which is typically around 85 ºC (185 ºF), negating the contribution from the carbon fiber. Further, epoxy is highly flammable and emits toxic fumes into the surrounding area in the case of a fire.Because X-Mesh Gold is attached to the structure with a cementitous mortar, the contribution from the reinforcement remains beyond the glass transition temperature, and will not emit toxic fumes in the case of a fire. Additional benefits are outlined below:

Applications:

  • Increase flexural strength of beams and beam columns
  • Increase shear strength of beams and beam columns
  • Increase torsional strength of beams
  • Increase compressive strength of axially loaded members
  • Replacement of corroded longitudinal and transverse reinforcing steel

Features and Benefits

  • High temperate and wet exposure exposure conditions
  • Higher elastic modulus than carbon fiber
  • Higher ultimate strength than carbon fiber
  • PBO fibers are not flammable
  • Mortar is breathable and will not create vapor barrier
  • Can be applied onto wet surfaces
