Vector Introduces Galvashield® XP+, 2nd Generation Discrete Galvanic Anode Vector Corrosion Technologies, a leading supplier of products and services for corrosion mitigation in concrete and masonry structures, is pleased to announce the launch of a new embedded galvanic anode at World of Concrete 2004 in Orlando, FL. Vector® Galvashield® XP+ is a second-generation puck-shaped discrete galvanic anode that builds upon the success of the original Vector Galvashield XP technology introduced in North America in the late 1990's. Since its introduction, Galvashield XP has set the standard for discrete galvanic anodes used for corrosion prevention in concrete rehabilitation. Vector Galvashield XP+ is used to provide localized protection at the interface between new concrete and chloride-contaminated concrete where accelerated corrosion activity is typically experienced. The product can be used to protect conventionally reinforced, prestressed, and post-tensioned structures. Specific applications include patching of spalled concrete in structures subject to corrosive conditions; balcony replacements, bridge widening and of post-tensioned anchorage repair. The new Galvashield XP+ discrete anode utilizes an innovative zinc core design to provide approximately 2 times the current output depending on the environment. This new level of performance now allows discrete galvanic anodes to be used for both corrosion prevention and corrosion control applications where a higher level of current is required to mitigate active corrosion.
For additional information on corrosion prevention, corrosion control, and cathodic protection, please refer to the technical document Corrosion Mitigation Strategies which provides a detailed description of these different approaches for corrosion protection.
