Project Description:
During original construction the deck drain down spouts were cast into the piers. Over time they became plugged and eventually split. This split was the source for chlorides to penetrate into the surrounding concrete and resulted in the corrosion of the steel adjacent to the drain pipe. This eventually created a vertical delamination about 2 ft. wide over the drainpipe.

Project Solution:
To repair the pier a two foot wide strip was chipped out on both sides of the pier. Galvashield® XP anodes were then incorporated as part of the patch repair.
