Project Description:
Prolonged exposure to de-icing salts was the cause of severe deterioration of the bridge deck. Since the deck is a typical girder box bridge, rehabilitation options were limited.

Project Solution:
The Nebraska Department of Roads wished to evaluate the effectiveness of the Galvashield® XP after incorporating them into the deck chip and patch work. The overlay was removed, anodes were installed along a repair boundary and a new overlay was installed. As an additional benefit, and at the request of the NEDOR, the anodes can be monitored on a continual basis.
