Project Description:
Leaking expansion joints on the Highway 59 Concordia Overpass became the source of chlorides leading to the contamination of the prestressed girder ends directly below the expansion joint.

Project Solution:
The first phase of the girder rehab has been performed at the beam ends on the north abutment. Galvashield® XP anodes were installed into spalled and delaminated areas of the girders to prevent premature bearing failure. In addition, Galvashield XP anodes were installed in sound sections of the girders to prevent the onset of future corrosion problems within the girders. The second phase of the rehab will continue in early 2000.
