Project Description:
The original construction of the 200,000 ft2 suspended slab was bare concrete. Several years after construction the deck was treated with a methyl-methacrylacte sealer. However, over time, the slab has suffered severe corrosion due to chloride contamination.
Project Solution:
Hydro-demolition & chipping was the method used to repair the structurally significant areas. To date 10,000ft2 of the 40,000 ft2 of chloride contaminated concrete has been repaired. Galvashield® XP anodes were incorporated into selected repair areas in the deck to protect against future "ring anode" corrosion.
