Vector Corrosion Technologies is pleased to announce the release of the Concrete Innovations Appraisal Service (CIAS) Report: 01-1 Appraisal of Galvashield® Embedded Galvanic Anodes for Repair of Concrete. Corrosion damage has become a serious problem for existing concrete structures in North America, and is one of the major problems facing engineers today. Vector offers Galvashield® Embedded Anodes as a solution to this multi-billion dollar problem. The principal use of the report, published by CIAS, is as neutral documentation to help technical committees of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and users of appraised technologies better understand technologies being considered. Further, the appraisal is intended as a tool for ACI committees as they develop and disseminate reports, guides, and standards that increase knowledge of concrete technology.

Galvashield® Embedded Anodes provide localized corrosion protection in reinforced concrete structures and are not intended to provide global protection to the overall repaired structure. As stated in the report "Galvashield Embedded Anodes are designed to neutralize or "slow down" new corrosion cells, which would otherwise develop around a repair area. This technology has a low installation cost and no maintenance cost and offers an easy-to-understand concept, which gives the client confidence in the capability of the repaired structure to perform its intended use."

The review shows the technical merits of the Galvashield® system are supported by field and laboratory data (over 3 and 5 years, respectively). In conclusion the report states "The technology has considerable promise as a strategy to increase the life of concrete repairs. The concept is simple, and it works in the sense that it functions as a sacrificial anode and thus confers galvanic corrosion protection to the steel in adjacent areas."
